Gas-Saving Tips For Current Gas Prices

The price of different petroleum products these days is higher than ever that several oil companies have been scrutinized for jacking up their gas prices every month or every week.  Furthermore, economies around the world have been affected by ever costly gasoline which we all know will be used up sooner or later.

Due to the volatile and mounting fuel prices, people are now trying to discover ways to save on fuel as much as they can.  It will also be more beneficial to our pockets and to the environment if we consume fewer petroleum products.

Hence, what can people do to lessen their gas consumption?  There are a lot of actions we can make to save gas.  We just have to know how our cars work or which means of travel is best for you.

If possible, don’t drive unless you need to.

The very first way to save cash on gas is to keep our cars in our garage more often.  If you live in a region where there is an efficient public transport system, you can just take a bus o a train to get where you need to be.

Car-pooling will be an alternative way to cut back on gas and each one of you who gets to ride in that one vehicle can just give a little fund to the driver.

Basic Driving and Car Care

These are very clear-cut concepts that every driver should by now be familiar with or should be aware of.

For people who own cars with manual transmission, feeling and shifting gears when necessary is essential to make proper gas consumption.  The lower the gear, the higher the gas usage of the engine.  Correct shifting as well as the right amount of gas is the key for the engine’s EFI or carburetor to use just the right amount of fuel it needs to produce torque.

When driving downhill, the driver should just let go of the gas pedal and shift to neutral.  It would both save you money on gas and lessen carbon discharge.

The air pressure on the car’s tires should be just right.  Tires with low air pressure will certainly bring down your car’s speed and will burn more fuel than your engine actually needs.  Tire’s that are over-inflated will increase the risk of being punctured and will also affect your car’s speed.  You can always read your car instruction manual if you don’t know what is the best air pressure for your tire.

Fiiling up your tank

High octane fuel does not constantly mean it’s better than regular.  In fact, damage to your car’s engine and other components is probable when using high-octane fuel since carbon deposits could build up in your car’s engine as not all of it is being burned completely as opposed to regular.

The only exception is that if for years your car has been using high octane fuel and switching to regular suddenly may change your car’s performance in a negative way.

Ethanol-mixed gasoline such as E10, E20, and E80 are now getting common in gas stations around the world.  Ethanol-mixed fuels are cheaper than pure gasoline and produce lesser harmful gases.  Yet, not all gas mixed with ethanol are compatible with every car.   Older car models especially ones that still use carburetor are not recommended to make use of ethanol-mixed gasoline as ethanol could corrode fuel lines which will hurt your pockets to have it serviced and eliminate the concept on saving money on fuel.
